TAX CREDITS ON HEATING AND AIR UNITS ARE BACK!
Recently we received great news on potential savings for customers in the market for a new heating and air system. The government tax incentives thought to have expired last year, were being brought back for qualified customers purchasing new heating and air units.
Rebates and incentives in the heating and air industry come and go as the seasons change. Our goal as a company is to always encourage customers to take advantage of these rebates when they are available. Below is a variety of ways you can benefit from the federal tax credit if you plan on purchasing or have recently purchased a new heating and air unit.
About The Federal Tax Credit For Heating and Air Conditioning Systems
As part of the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018, many of the residential high-efficiency tax credits were extended through December 31st, 2021. These credits are also eligible for customers that purchased qualifying equipment dating back retroactively to January 1st, 2018.
As part of the program, homeowners may qualify for a tax credit that is equal to 10% of the installed amount of the qualified heating and cooling equipment, up to a $500 maximum. While the tax credit technically lasts until the end of 2021, the amount you can write off does gradually decrease as time gets closer to the cut-off date.
How Do I Qualify For the Tax Credit?
To qualify for or claim the 25C tax credit, you must have either purchased or are planning to purchase an Energy Star® Certified HVAC system. Energy Star® is a certification backed by the EPA that recognizes high-efficiency benchmarks in everyday household appliances. Almost every manufacturer of household appliances offers a high-efficiency line that meets the Energy Star® requirements.
What If I Bought A Furnace Or Air Conditioning Unit Last Year?
Because the tax credits were made retroactive to January 1st, 2018, you can either write them off on your 2019 tax return, or even have your 2018 tax returns amended by a tax professional in the event that you purchased the HVAC equipment in 2018. The Comfort Specialists at Superior can help guide you in the right direction if you have any questions on how to do this.
Double Your Savings With Other Heating and Air Conditioning Systems Rebates in St Louis
In addition to the federal tax credit, local energy companies are also offering rebates on central heat and air units that meet similar efficiency benchmarks. These heating and cooling rebates can be used in conjunction with the tax credit to help save customers even more money on a high-efficiency HVAC system. Rebates and incentives provided by St Louis based energy companies include:

Save Now And Pay Later With 18 Month 0% Financing
Out-of-pocket costs for new heating and air units can be overwhelming. Superior has teamed up with Synchrony financing to offer an amazing payment program. Right now, for qualified buyers, customers can receive 18 months 0% financing on a new HVAC system.
This can allow homeowners to stretch the gap between now and tax return season in order to qualify for these amazing incentives, upgrade to new heating and air system, and only pay the monthly payments from now until then.
Have an r22 Air Conditioner? Now Is The Time To Replace!
With r22 refrigerant production officially being ceased for good effective January 1st, 2020, these incentives could not have come at a better time.
If your air conditioner currently runs off of r22 refrigerant, you are likely going to have a hard time finding an HVAC contractor to recharge the unit. While some heating and air conditioning companies may have some r22 left in stock, they will likely charge an arm and a leg per pound for it. If your AC unit is over 10 years old, there is a good chance that you fall under this category.
We recommend customers take advantage of these incentives in order to avoid costly repairs and maintenance down the road. Upgrade your heating and air conditioning system to a new, high-efficiency rating that will decrease your monthly energy bills and will be less expensive to maintain.
